Art experiences through skating

Art experiences through skating

Visual arts and figure skating have a lot in common. Taiko sponsors the female figure skating team Helsinki Rockettes that is a 3-time world champion. Read how Martina Timonen, one of the members, seesd art, skatingn and our co-operation.

You can participate in supporting Helsinki Rockettes by using the code RCKT when purchasing art.

"I'm extremely excited about our co-operation with Taiko since art is so close to our hearts. Our team needs sponsors to be able to concentrate on excersicing and winner even more championchips. Everyone using the code when buying art supports us directly, and that has a huge impact!

For me, figure skating is strongly connected with art. Lots of time and thought are used when creating our choreocrahpies. The combination of movement and music is especially challenging but at the same time rewarding. The aim is to perform the mandatory elements in a way that supports the theme of the current choreograph.

Our trainers and choreographers want to create art experiences that offer plenty of excitement and emotions. We athletes work as brushes that paint the ideas to the audience.

Figure skating gives me a tool to to examine and express my creative side. It requires a special ability to be able to understand the outlines of all the innovative forms of the choreographies. Thanks to 14 years in figure skating, it's natural for me to perceive big entities.

A side of my athlete career, I need relaxing methods. I enjoy drawing and painting, but the biggest challenge for me has been seeing my works as whole. Slowly, I've leared to see how every little thing I draw is connected to each other and form an entity.

Our training slogan 'trust the process' applies on skating on ice as well when creating art on paper.

My favorite artwork on Taiko is the artphoto Blue Leaves II. I like its tones a lot! Even though the work is quite dark it still gives me positive and glad vibes."
